Where is the Cinematic Bandicoot? – Update 2

It’s been several months since I posted my last review, and for good reason.

I have changed majors in college from journalism to multimedia design and communication. What this means is that I won’t be churning out as many reviews because I am focusing on building my student portfolio for a future in tech and art, which offers more opportunities in the real world.

While I was passionate about journalism, there was not much room to carve out a sustainable living in an overcrowded market. That, and a personal life tragedy permanently discouraged my pursuit of this major because journalists have the worst work/life balance.

Coupled with the rise of AI technology like ChatGPT, an unforgiving algorithm that buries anyone that does not cover current topics 24/7, and business expenses for the website, the costs outweigh the benefits with and without inflation. A common phrase amongst journalists is that we don’t write stories for the money, but the reality is that we still need to eat and pay bills.

This career is not financially stable, and thus I changed my major for both financial and personal reasons.

However, I will not completely abandon writing. There are several articles that I intend to finish like “The top 20 ‘Owl House’ episodes part two” and the yearly collection of the best unreviewed media.

I’m also working on several writing projects that I hope to publish in the future, but because of these changes less time will be devoted to website content.

I do enjoy writing and publishing reviews, but there’s not enough activity to sustain a sizable viewership for my blog in the long run.

My reviews going forward will not focus on current releases for financial reasons, but I want to know what kind of reviews you all enjoy the most – movies, television or video games? I’ll create polls starting next year to determine what will be published and maybe revamp a Patreon page if there is enough support.

I have enough content at home to create at least 100 drafts of potential reviews. What matters most is if I can provide a new perspective on something that’s been talked about so much like retro video games and movies one their anniversaries.

If anyone out there enjoys reading my reviews, I appreciate you tuning in whenever I had an opinion on the latest releases. It’s been fun seeing everyone’s reaction to my articles, and though I won’t be as productive on this website, I look forward to publishing whatever comes to mind.

This is the Cinematic Bandicoot and whatever the future holds, there will always be something to write about even if it’s not current media. If there is an audience that still enjoys reading my reviews, then this website will remain operational even if it’s on the back burner. Until next year, keep your family and friends close as we go forward with changes. Call or meetup with someone you haven’t seen in a long time and cherish the time you spend together. You never know when it will be your last.
